Batten Ballers Update: Week 1

The Batten Ballers are back in action this season, with teams on both the basketball and volleyball courts.

The Ballers were offered a last-minute spot off the waitlist for basketball, and managed to make a strong showing despite on 30 minutes notice. The team had some great shots, blocks, and passes, and kept the game tied right until the end, when the Chi Alpha team scored a buzzer shot three-pointer to win the game. The team had a strong court presence, however ragtag the last-minute additions may have been (thanks to all those who happened to be in the AFC and joined our team!).

On the volleyball court, the Ballers put up a solid fight against the Medical School team. One baller endured a hip burn from a heroic dig to receive a pass, an injury which was immediately diagnosed by the doctors in training on the other side of the net. Every team member improved by the end of the game, and we look forward to many more games with many more faces!

Our basketball team has a week off for the Superbowl, and all team members are encouraged to spend their free time bulking up by enjoying a protein-rich smoothie from the AFC.

Hope to see many more Battenites out there next week! Volleyball games take place Tuesdays at 7:15, and basketball games resume next Sunday at 6:30.

Batten Ballers Update: Week 3

Fresh off the heels of last week’s tough loss, the Batten Ballers fought until the overtime buzzer tonight at Slaughter Gym. With our largest showing yet, the squad of 10 took on a scrappy group of undergrads, and were ultimately defeated after a 2-minute overtime by a single point. The Ballers had some terrific rebounds and steals to complement their offensive game, with the entire team contributing to the scoreboard through baskets, assists, and some great passes. The Ballers ended the two halves with a 36-36 tie, coming just shy of a win in the last second before the buzzer. Next week, we take on our last regular season competitors – join us in Slaughter Gym at 6pm to secure another win! ImageImage

Batten Ballers Secure First Win

The Batten Ballers took to the basketball court this evening, ultimately succeeding in their first matchup of the intramural season.

Tony Lucadamo, Simone Egwu, Elena Weissmann, Saiful Kahn, Vimal Nair, and Luke Handley took a ruffian gang of competitors by storm, quickly topping the charts with a 15 point lead which remained with them throughout the game.

The Ballers earned their win through some great teamwork, and surely made Frank proud. The final score was 64-43, thanks to the team’s fighting spirit, coordination, and love of policy. Our opponents, “Oneway,” saw the truth that policy is everywhere.

Up next week is a nailbiter against “the Nefarious Souls.” Can the Batten Ballers keep up their intense scoring, passing, and rebounding game? We’ve got a good feeling about this season. Tune in next Sunday!
